2010/2011 Board of Directors

Peter Robbins
Commodore     

Peter was appointed Commodore in June 2010 and prior to that he was Vice Commodore from November 2003.   Peter has been on the club redevelopment committee for the last seven years and the Marina committee for the last three years.   Peter has been a partner in the Stubby Cooler Company, Townsville for the last ten years.  Prior to this time Peter was a senior executive for Smorgon Steel Reinforcing, the last role as State Manager, South Australia/Northern Territory.   Peter, a keen competitive sailor sold his yacht “Rising Farrst” in 2008 but retained the berth, and skippered Ian Hamilton’s yacht “Akarana” for the 2010 season.

 

Anthony Muller
Vice Commodore

Tony is a Life Member of the Townsville Yacht Club.  He was appointed as Vice Commodore in 2010 and prior to this was Treasurer from November 2000 to June 2010.  Tony is a certified Financial Planner and a partner of a local insurance advisory firm.   Tony has been a Director of Townsville Motor Boat and Yacht Club Limited on two previous occasions.

 

Colin White
Treasurer

Colin was appointed as Treasurer in June 2010.  Colin came onto the board in 2006 and was appointed Secretary from 2007 to 2010.  Colin is a Barrister who has been in practice in Townsville for 25 years; he is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been a director on a number of institutions including the Townsville Port Authority.  He is both a boat owner – Last Tango - and a berth owner.

 

Ian Johnson
Secretary

Ian was appointed as Secretary in June 2010 and joined the Board in November 2007.  Ian has taken a very active interest in all aspects of the Boards business, applying his substantial skills to issues as diverse as the clubs computer systems, secretarial support and managing the relocation of vessels in the rebuilding program.  Ian was employed with the Western Mining Corporation in the mineral exploration industry in North Queensland, fulfilling many roles, starting as a draftsman and surveyor, and for the last seven years of his employment as a manager administering a workforce of over 30 staff. Between 1995 and 2005 Ian owned and operated a successful retail Pharmacy with his wife in Annandale.  Following the sale of the business, Ian has spent his time building a house in Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island. 

 

Murray Whitehead
Rear Commodore / Director

Murray held the position of Commodore for 3 years from June 2007 to June 2010 and has been a Director since 2003. Murray is an environmental planner and manager with extensive experience in state legislation, statutory process and project management. He has been instrumental in achieving security of the clubs land and lease asset base and managing the marina construction and shore side upgrade.  Besides his strong involvement in the business side of the club, Murray is a very keen supporter of strengthening the club and family participation in the sport of boating. Murray and his young family are keen sailors on ‘Savanna’, specializing in cruising, island exploring and the occasional race.

 

Ron Freeman
Director

Ron has been a member of the board since June 2003. Ron has been a member of Townsville Yacht Club for over 25 years and during that time has acted as safety officer and offshore coordinator for the TCYC. Ron is a keen sailor with his boat “Lady Mystique” and a supporter and participant in many club events, introducing many people to the sport.  Ron has played an active role in facilitating the practical aspects of the marina redevelopment.  Ron managed his own earthmoving business in Townsville for 25 years before retiring in 2004.

 

Ian Hamilton
Director

Ian is a Life Member of Townsville Yacht Club.  Ian Graduated as a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Structural) from Canterbury University in New Zealand, and continues as a Queensland Registered Engineer. With a background of 40 years as an engineering consultant in the local area, Ian retired as Chairman of Cardno in 2000. Ian has also been Chairman of Townsville Water Board for 20 years retiring in 2008 and is a past President of Rotary Club of Townsville and a Director of Food Relief NQ. 

 

Irene Jol
Director

Irene has been a club member for the past 23 years and owns a berth in the new marina.  Irene became a Director in 2004.  Irene has been working in the marine industry for more than twenty years, in accounts and more recently retail.  Irene and husband Peter built their yacht, “Reneter” in Melbourne and cruised north in 1977. After cruising to the Solomons and PNG in 1978, they sailed to Townsville. 

                          

Mick Gillum
Director

Mick was elected to the Board in 2008.  He is active in the Townsville sailing fleet and is Vice-Sailing Captain on the TCYC.  He has been a club member since 2004 and has spent 10 years involved with junior sporting organisations at a management level.  Mick is employed as a Production Superintendant at Queensland Nickel.

 

Mark Fox
Director

Mark was elected to the Board in 2011.
